在翻譯中，我們時(shí)常也會(huì)碰到數(shù)詞的翻譯。由于英漢兩種語(yǔ)言在表達(dá)數(shù)字以及倍數(shù)增減方面存在一定的差別，翻譯時(shí)應(yīng)十分小心，稍有不慎，就可能會(huì)出現(xiàn)錯(cuò)誤。因此我們?cè)诜�譯數(shù)字時(shí)務(wù)必格外謹(jǐn)慎，力爭(zhēng)做到準(zhǔn)確無(wú)誤。

　　一、數(shù)詞組成的常用短語(yǔ)

　　這類(lèi)短語(yǔ)大多是由數(shù)詞和介詞搭配而成，或是數(shù)詞和其他詞類(lèi)搭配而成，常用來(lái)表示不確定的范圍和概念，有時(shí)也可表示事物所處的狀態(tài)或其他情況。例如

　　by hundreds   數(shù)以百計(jì)

　　by thousands數(shù)以千計(jì)；大量

　　by(the) millions數(shù)以百萬(wàn)計(jì)

　　by halves不完全

　　hundreds of數(shù)百；數(shù)以百計(jì)

　　二、需要換算數(shù)詞的翻譯

　　由于英語(yǔ)數(shù)字的表達(dá)與漢語(yǔ)數(shù)字的表達(dá)方式不同，漢譯時(shí)需要換算。數(shù)字的換算看起來(lái)似乎很簡(jiǎn)單，但翻譯工往往會(huì)因?yàn)椴恍⌒亩�犯錯(cuò)誤，可謂失之毫厘、廖之千里。例如

　　ten thousand（10個(gè)千）一萬(wàn)

　　one hundred thousand（100個(gè)千）十萬(wàn)

　　ten million（10個(gè)百萬(wàn)）千萬(wàn)

　　one hundred million（100個(gè)百萬(wàn)）億

　　one billion十億（美式英語(yǔ)）

　　ten billion（10個(gè)十億）百億

　　one hundred billion（100個(gè)十億）千億

　　one trillion萬(wàn)億

　　三、概數(shù)的譯法

　　概數(shù)是用來(lái)表示簡(jiǎn)略、大概情況的數(shù)字。英語(yǔ)和漢語(yǔ)中都有使用概數(shù)來(lái)表示不確定的范圍或概念的語(yǔ)言現(xiàn)象。例如漢語(yǔ)中的幾個(gè)、十來(lái)個(gè)、若干、大約、大概、左右、上下、約有、不到、多于、少于等概念，在英語(yǔ)中都能找到與之對(duì)等的詞。

　�。ㄒ唬�   表示“大約”、“不確定”的翻譯策略

　　在英語(yǔ)中，一般常使用about, some, around, round, nearly, towards, somewhere about, estimated, approximately, in/of/on the border of, close to等詞修飾數(shù)字，表示“不確定”、“大約”、“上下”、“將近”、“幾 乎”等。

　　The volume of the sun is about (or some, around, round) 1,300,000 times that of the earth.

　　太陽(yáng)的體積約為地球的130萬(wàn)倍。

　　It is nearly (or towards) 4 o’clock.

　　現(xiàn)在已是將近4點(diǎn)了。

　　The price of this new machine is in the neighborhood of a thousand dollars.

　　這臺(tái)新機(jī)器的價(jià)格約1,000美元。

　　According to the weatherman, the temperature will be up 5

　　℃ or so.

　　據(jù)天氣預(yù)報(bào)，氣溫將升高5℃左右。

　�。ǘ�）表示“高于”、“多于”的翻譯方法

　　英語(yǔ)常用more than, odd, over, above, long, past, or more, upwards of , higher than, exceed, in excess of 等詞修飾數(shù)字，表示“超過(guò)”、“以上”、“有余”、“高于”、“多于”等。

　　The weight of this child is said to be over one hundred pounds.

　　據(jù)說(shuō)，這個(gè)孩子的體重有100多磅。

　　It took me more than two hours to finish the homework.

　　我花了兩個(gè)多小時(shí)才做完家庭作業(yè)。

　　This car has run a long thousand miles.

　　這輛車(chē)已經(jīng)跑了1000多英里。

　　（三）表示“少于”、“差一些”、“不到”等的翻譯方法

　　英語(yǔ)常用less, less than, below, no more than, under, short of , off, to, within, as few as 等詞修飾數(shù)字，表示“少于”、“不到”、“以下”等。

　　It took one month less than three years for them to develop the new material.

　　他們花了三年差一個(gè)月的時(shí)間才研制出了這種新材料。

　　The price of that tricycle is less than one hundred and eighty-five francs.

　　那輛三輪車(chē)的人售價(jià)還不到185法郎。

　　He bought the coffeepot at 6 dollars off the list price.

　　他以低于價(jià)目表6美元的價(jià)格買(mǎi)下了那個(gè)咖啡壺。
